Hurriyet are claiming the young winger has told Galatasaray chiefs that he would be happy to remain at the Turk Telekom Arena for another term, providing the Super Lig title-hopefuls can reach an agreement with Everton.

We have already waited two seasons for Henry Onyekuru to obtain a UK work permit and be eligible to feature at Goodison Park, but it seems the wait for the Nigerian’s Royal Blue debut may continue into a third campaign.

There have been hopes on Merseyside that his efforts in the Super Lig and growing stature in the Nigeria senior side would help Onyekuru secure a UK work permit, but there has not yet been any guarantees one will be obtained.

Aslanlar manager Fatih Terim has been one of Onyekuru’s biggest admirers this season, despite the forward initially being swamped with criticism in Turkey.

Galatasaray have also regularly been linked with another loan move for the 5 ft 7 attacker, providing he fails to land a work permit, and there have been suggestions they are willing to double his wage to €2.6million-a-year (£2.2m) to secure a deal.

Galatasaray are already paying his €1.3m-a-year (£1.1m) wage as part of the agreement which saw Onyekuru head to Istanbul for the season, while they also paid us €800,000 (£694k) as a loan fee.

What helped to change opinions of the 9-cap international was that Onyekuru soon established himself as one of Galatasaray’s key forward options, and has scored vital goals for Terim throughout the campaign – including the opening strike against Besiktas at the start of the month.
