Andre Gomes has hailed the warmth of Evertonians who treat him as a person and not just a player but insists he cannot be compared to former fans' favourite Mikel Arteta.

“I will do my best to have the same influence he did on that Everton team with my own style and I want to adapt to the system of the team to reach our goals.”

“We feel we are a family: fans, club and players.

Speaking to the St Domingo shirtzine, Gomes said: “The club is brilliant.

The midfielder, who first arrived at Goodison Park on loan from Barcelona last season, completed a £22million permanent switch this summer to end his time at the Catalan giants.

“The people of Liverpool are hard workers, you see so many of the kids in kits already when driving around.” Given his silky touches on the pitch and presence as more of an artist than artisan in the engine room, Gomes has been likened to another Iberian playmaker to grace Goodison Park, Mikel Arteta who started his career at Barcelona but departed before making a first team appearance.

However, after enjoying a rehabilitation in fortunes at Everton, the 26-year-old remains thankful for the welcome he received.
