Everton midfielder Andre Gomes gave two young Blues their suprise of their lives ahead of last weekend's match with Crystal Palace.

The Portuguese star is back in training after suffering an horrific ankle injury back in November but has made an amazing recovery with Carlo Ancelotti confirming he is targeting a first-team comeback before the end of this month.

The 26-year-old stunned two young Evertonians last Saturday by picking them up from their home in Walton in driving them to Goodison to see the Blues in action.

Youngsters Ben, 11, and Sam, 5, thought they were about to collected by a work friend of dad Graeme but when the car pulled to take them to the ground, it was Gomes sitting behind the wheel.

Dad Graeme said: "It was fantastic. From the moment we got the first phone call about it I was really excited and keeping it a secret from the boys was the hardest thing!

"They were so shocked and surprised and a little bit overwhelmed, I think. They just weren't expecting it.

"They've told everybody. They've been to football since, and boxing, and everybody has stopped me and asked about it. My Twitter has gone mad!

"As an Evertonian, it's probably the biggest treat you can get for a footballer like Andre Gomes to come to our house and pick us up in his own car.

"It was just amazing and I'm so glad my kids got that opportunity."

Graeme and Ben are Everton season ticket holders, while Sam is now a regular at Goodison games alongside his dad and older brother.

Gomes invited Evertontv's cameras with him for the ride and said afterwards: "It was amazing.

"I was quite excited and also a little bit nervous about how it would go. It was unbelievable to see the smiles on the boys' faces.

"I don't think they could believe it at first, but then they started talking about the game and singing my song, so it was really, really nice.

"They were telling me they went to the Watford game, they are always at Goodison, and it's really important we have that support.

"It's great to be able to give something back to say thank you."

The youngsters even got to meet Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti after the match, which Everton won 3-1, and also received signed shirts from Andre Gomes.

Graeme posted photographs of Ben and Sam's day on Twitter and added: "Andre was great and had time for all of us. He was absolutely brilliant. The whole day was.

"Everton is every week, every day for us. The boys have been lucky enough to get a few matchworn tops at games and Ben was a mascot a few seasons ago.

"He's absolutely hooked on the Blues and Sam is definitely getting that way, too.

"It was a brilliant experience for them and everyone will see from the video how surprised they were.”
