Carlo Ancelotti slammed as 'overrated' in strange rant

Paolo Di Canio has bizarrely belittled Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti's managerial career.

The Italian took over at Goodison back in December weeks after leaving Napoli, and has kept them in European contention with the Blues sitting 12th in the Premier League in a tightly-congested mid-table battle to qualify for the Europa League.

But despite Ancelotti's status as one of the most successful and well-respected managers in European football, his compatriot has dismissed his achievements, claiming it is only because of his players and citing his lack of silverware at Napoli as proof that he is overrated.

“He has found his level (at Everton ),” Di Canio said in Il Mattino, cited by Forza Italian Football. “He is among the best in the management of great champions who play at big clubs.

Paolo di Canio celebrates after Sunderland score

“He has won where they win regardless of who the coach is; at Real Madrid where many have won, at Paris Saint-Germain, and at Bayern Munich.

“Instead at Napoli, it did not go like this. In the first year, he took advantage of the mechanisms Maurizio Sarri had left him, he had to put his own ones in during the second, and the results are there to see, with a limited budget.”

Prior to taking over at Everton, Ancelotti won numerous trophies with Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich including three Champions League titles, the Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.

In contrast, Di Canio has been out of work since a dismal six-month tenure in charge of Sunderland back in 2013, winning just three matches with chief executive Margaret Byrne stating that he had been sacked after senior players had approached her and that his situation became untenable due to his "brutal and vitriolic" criticism of the squad.
