Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has displayed his classy nature in his response to Liverpool's Premier League title win.

Ancelotti, who guided Chelsea to the winner's podium in 2010, has revealed he recently extended his congratulations to his Merseyside managerial counterpart Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds won the Premier League last Thursday - and the Italian manager has shown the ultimate respect to his neighbouring rivals after messaging the German by phone.

This comes after Fabian Delph had sent a message to his former Manchester City colleague, Lee Nobes, who is currently a physio at Liverpool.

The Everton midfielder had commented on a picture of his friend celebrating the triumph last week.

Speaking in defence of his player's comment to Instagram, Ancelotti told The Telegraph: "I think this is a personal behaviour. If you want to send a message to some teammates to congratulate them, it's absolutely normal.

"I sent a message to Jurgen to congratulate him for his success. I think it's important to respect, nothing more. I sent a message to congratulate him by phone."

Klopp has proved the feelings of respect between the duo are completely mutual as he revealed his own message for Everton and Ancelotti in his open letter to the people of Liverpool.

He wrote: "I am obviously biased because Liverpool is my club but I am not so biased that I cannot see that Everton fans are the other side of the same coin and that the rivalry that exists is so important to the city’s identity.

"I know that this is not their favourite time and if roles were reversed it would not be our favourite time either but in Carlo Ancelotti, Everton have a great manager and a great person and I have no doubt in my mind that their improvement since he arrived will only continue.

"Everton is a great rival in every sense. I do not need anyone to remind me of this."
