A few Everton supporters have been discussing whether or not Marcel Brands should be looking to sign Olympique Lyonnais forward Memphis Depay in the summer.

There were reports towards the end of the season that our Director of Football had travelled to France to observe the Dutchman in action against LOSC Lille, alongside our Head of Recruitment Gretar Steinsson, while also aiming to cast judgment on Lyon midfielder Lucas Tousart.

While Tousart did not feature in that particular game, Depay did, and would have caught Brands and Steinsson’s attention by creating the opening goal in the eleventh minute and going on to record a further six key passes and take three shots.

£45million-rated Depay has not been involved in any more goals since then – failing to stamp his mark against Olympique de Marseille at the weekend – but has eight goals and nine assists in the Ligue 1 this term, along with two goals and six assists in the cups.

The 46-cap international is also capable of playing anywhere across the front line or as the attacking midfielder, but given he flopped at Manchester United and has no set position at Lyon, there are a few question marks over how beneficial he would be to Marco Silva next season.
