The Portuguese approached the referee and his officials after a series of contentious calls at St James Park Marco Silva has defended his outburst at Lee Mason, despite receiving a Football Association charge.

The Everton boss approached the referee at the full time whistle against Newcastle United after he felt a series of contentious calls went against his side during the defeat.

“I didn’t use abusive words or something like that and in that moment I wasn’t happy with the two decisions.

He is currently awaiting the outcome of the charge for improper conduct, but Silva insists he did not act in an aggressive or disrespectful manner towards the officials.

“In that moment I wasn’t happy, first of all with ourselves and with some decisions, also.

“But I never was aggressive, never disrespectful with the referee.

I was clear with what I said to the referee and to the assistant about the situation.”
