Everton came away with a point against Liverpool in Saturday's Merseyside derby after a touch of VAR fortune.

Jordan Pickford could have seen red inside the opening 10 minutes of the game for his challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

The Liverpool manager would later say that his team “dominated” the game against an Everton team that he very much implied were playing as well as they ever could hope to.

Here's how the national media reacted to their performance.

VAR then denied Liverpool a winner with the last kick of the game, with Sadio Mane adjudged offside in the build-up to Jordan Henderson's strike.

Liverpool would have their own lucky escape from a red card when Mane was booked for launching himself at Lucas Digne.

In between were four goals and the best part of 80 minutes where Everton matched the Premier League champions and twice battled back from behind.
