Everton are closing in on the £8 million signing of Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

Delph has become available because  City have recruited Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri in a club record deal, further limiting the England man's chances of featuring in his favoured role in the season ahead.

Delph has often played at left back under Guardiola, but City have also strengthened in that area over the summer, signing Angelino from PSV Eindhoven.

Manager Marco Silva is ready to make Delph a key addition in a bargain deal, the 29-year-old entering the final year of his current contract at the Etihad.

Everton are still hoping to offload players and add an attacker to their ranks.

There has been stiff competition for Delph’s signature at home and in Europe but the chance to stay in the north west at a club pushing for European qualification next season appears to have given Everton the upper hand.

Although Silva and Goodison's Director of Football Marcel Brands have been been pursuing younger, up-and-coming talent,  a player of Delph’s pedigree and experience fits the bill to add quality at a good price.
