Everton boasted an unlikely pass-master in Wednesday's frustrating draw with Newcastle - a man who even outpassed Andre Gomes.

On-loan defender Kurt Zouma was restored to the Blues back-four alongside Yerry Mina - and produced an eye-catching display.

And even more surprisingly, the player who achieved a remarkable 96% success rate with his passing hadn't featured for three matches.

The French international completed 72 of 75 passes - the highest success rate of any player on the pitch - and 27 of those completed passes came inside Newcastle's half.

"But at least we came back into the game after conceding the first goal and got the point.” Zouma will once again be in contention to start when Everton travel to London to play Watford on Monday night.

He said: "It was good with Yerry, but Michael has been doing a very good job.

Zouma believes the competition for places at Everton is helping everyone perform better.
