Mason Holgate speaks about the games which have shaped his Everton career

There have been plenty of big milestones in Mason Holgate’s career since he left Barnsley for Everton nearly five years ago.

And, while it may have taken a while, the Yorkshire-born defender has begun to show people just what he can do on the pitch.

In an exclusive interview with the ECHO, the 23-year-old has looked back on some of the games which have shaped his career at Goodison Park and helped him grow into the player he is today.

Everton assistant manager explains challenges presented by new training rules

Everton, like the other 19 teams in the Premier League, have been permitted to return to training - albeit with some caveats.

The Toffees have welcomed platers back to Finch Farm after a two-month absence, but still don’t know if and when they will play again in the Premier League following the suspension of the 2019/20 season in March.

As part of the league’s ‘Project Restart’, players are allowed back to the training ground, but strict rules need to be obeyed.

Davide Ancelotti, the club’s assistant manager and son of manager Carlo, has been shedding some light on the exact issues which need to be dealt with as the Toffees prepare for an eventual return to competitive action.

“You need to change the plan a little bit [from a normal pre-season], go a little bit faster because we don’t know when we have to play in the Premier League,” Ancelotti told the club website.

“If you don’t have a day to start the competition, it is not easy to plan training. It is better to go day-by-day, always monitoring the players’ condition in training and with the data.”

Additionally, he spoke of the challenges which come with adapting rules on contact (or lack thereof) to training sessions while retaining intensity and competition.

The best concept strips after Everton confirm hummel kit deal

Everton have secured a three-year kit deal with hummel, with the manufacturer due to take over from Umbro, and the news is music to the ears of Toffees fans.

We’re yet to be given a real idea of when we’ll see the fruits of the deal, which is understood to be worth £8-10m per year, with no known release date for next season’s kits - the first to bear hummel’s logo.

While we wait for updates on the 2020/21 campaign, and indeed the current Premier League season, plenty have been speculating about what the next design might look like.
