Everton forward reacts to FIFA rating - what this really means for Everton

Following fan confusion about Richarlison’s rating on the upcoming FIFA 20 game, the player himself has now taken to social media to query his statistics.

At the beginning of FIFA 19, which was released in September 2018, the £45million Everton signing was ranked with an overall rating of 77.

Following his performances in the Premier League for the Toffees last season, the Brazil international had an upgraded rating of 80 in January, where FIFA developer EA update and refresh certain players’ ratings based on real life form.

However, with FIFA 20 set to come out later this month, it has been revealed that Richarlison will now be allocated a rating of 79 – one behind Bernard and staggeringly just one better than Kevin Mirallas.

This confused and frustrated many Everton supporters, and not just those who play FIFA but also those who feel that a decreased rating is an insult to the 22-year old, who scored 13 Premier League goals last season.

Taking to Instagram (via The Toffee Blues on Twitter), Richarlison reposted a meme from an Everton meme account on his story, questioning the downgrade, while also tagging EA’s official Instagram page.

Richarlison has already scored three goals this season, two in the Premier League, and it is safe to assume he will be looking to at least equal his tally from last season.

Should EA have rated Richarlison higher for FIFA 20?

Of course Richarlison’s rating should be higher. It is of no relevance that the rating is associated with a video game, it is more about the perception from others on how well the forward is performing.

As Richarlison (via the meme) points out in his Instagram story, his personal statistics for last season were 20 goals and 5 assists in all competitions, which is impressive for a natural wide man, plus he achieved success in the Copa America.

Moving him only one rating above Kevin Mirallas doesn’t just validate the Belgian (don’t get me started on that one) but it also devalues Richarlison’s contributions. Richarlison has become a valuable squad member, who Everton rely on to perform well, and his rating undermines his importance to the team.

This means that Everton are undervalued and under-appreciated, that people don’t take enough notice of the Toffees to understand Richarlison’s influence.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is another player who seems to automatically make the starting line-up for Everton, and his rating is 83. There is a disconnect there, because Richarlison is just as if not more important and better as a player for Everton than the Icelandic playmaker.
