Blues linked with Ajax star

Everton are reportedly tracking Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico after manager Erik Ten Hag hinted at an exit.

The Argentina international, who can play at left-back or centre-back, has been linked with a host of European clubs ahead of the 2020/21 season, and Ten Hag admitted his contract situation is complicated.

“For Andre Onana and Donny van der Beek another year at Ajax is certainly an option,” as per reports from Het Parool, via Goal.com .

“But for Tagliafico, it is slightly different because of his age.”

The 27-year old is rumoured to have rejected Ajax’s attempts to extend his current deal beyond 2022, meaning the Eredivisie side could be open to offers in the region of £22.5million.

Gordon hails experienced Blues duo

Rising Blues star Anthony Gordon has praised the impact of veteran pair Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines on his early career.

The 19-year old made his Premier League debut against West Ham in January, with the England U19 international remaining with the first team ever since.

Carlo Ancelotti handed him a first Premier League start in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool earlier this month, and Gordon believes the support of senior players is helping his development.

“Leighton and Seamus are so approachable and such nice people,” he said. “I spoke with them both last season, and I have carried on with that. They are such good leaders, and they have been incredible with me.

“I can speak with them about anything, even small details of my game. Seamus in particular, talks to me about how to move during games and make runs in behind.

“He tells me to ‘use your pace and power, no defender wants to be running towards their own goal’. This has really helped.”

Ball calls for consistency in Europa League push

Former Blues defender Michael Ball is confident Everton can secure Europa League qualification if they continue to show consistency until the end of the campaign.

Ball has been impressed with Everton’s defensive record following their return to action, with clean sheets against Liverpool and Norwich.

In his weekly ECHO column , the ex-full back claimed Everton have reacted well to the unique circumstances of Premier League football right now, making steady progress in each game.

“What we want to see between now and the end of the season is slight improvements, game by game,” he said.

“Since we have come back, we’ve had two positive results, and if you look at the table, European qualification is possible.

“But we are not going to know where we are, until we start playing the teams around us, fighting for the same goals.

“We’ve got two big games coming up, against Leicester and Spurs, and we need to put a marker down for what we want to achieve.”
