Everton have been linked with Joao Mario, with the 26-year-old having an uncertain future at Inter Milan and Everton looking to bolster their midfield.

The Toffees could miss out on signing Andre Gomes this summer and might look to another Portuguese international with Premier League experience, especially if they’ll save around £11m in the process.

Everton might be better off spending the money elsewhere.

When Mario joined West Ham United on loan last year, he had an asking price of £26m in 2018.

Mario underperformed during his loan spell at West Ham which led to the London outfit choosing not to turn his move permanent last summer.

The midfielder has since struggled for playing time at the San Siro (142 minutes of Serie A football since February) which may put off Everton.

Mario is reported to earn £2.34m-a-year/£45k-per-week at Inter which would make him a lower mid-level earner at Goodison Park, according to Spotrac.
