The FA Cup is set to be broadcast exclusively on free-to-air television from the 2021-22 season, effecting fans of both of Everton and Liverpool .

According to a report published in The Times, ITV have reached an agreement with the FA over a four-year package from the start of the 2021-22 campaign that will guarantee a larger television audience for the oldest national football competition in the world.

The move will see ITV join the BBC as rights holders for the competition, with the BBC having the rights to broadcast up to 18 live matches a season, in addition to the highlights and online highlights, while ITV will gain the larger package on offer and will broadcast up to 30 games as the senior partner.

Under the terms of the new deal, which is set to be officially signed in the next few weeks, the two broadcasters will share coverage of the final, as they did from 1955 until 1988.

The package for which ITV is believed to have bid successfully for is currently held by BT Sport, who have shared the rights with the BBC since 2014.

Everton last competed in the FA Cup final back in 2009 and have won the competition on five separate occasions.

While the Reds have lifted the famous trophy seven times in their history, and last featured in the final back in 2012.
