Fit-again Everton Ladies defender Dan Turner is eager to cement her place in Willie Kirk's starting 11 after making her return from injury against Chelsea.

The 27-year-old and her Blue Girls teammates are preparing to face Brighton on Sunday at the Checkatrade Stadium, home of Crawley Town.

Just two points separate the two teams in the Women's Super League rankings and Turner knows how crucial a win for the Toffees would be as they look to pull away from the relegation spot.

But, now back in the fold, she is hoping to play a key role in pushing Everton up the table.

"I think as an injured player you do kind of get locked in the four walls of the gym quite a bit," she said. "So it was just great to be back on the pitch.

“I didn’t have the best performance and it was a tough game to come back into against Chelsea but I managed to get nearly 80 minutes under my belt.

“We know Brighton’s going to be a very important game. They beat Liverpool at the weekend and they’ve gone back above us in the league so it’s very tight.

“Preparations are going well this week. Willie and Chris [Roberts] and the rest of the staff have been preparing like they do every game to make sure we’re in the best possible shape, mentally and physically.”

Former Bristol City and Hibs boss Kirk and assistant coach Roberts took over in December and since then, have worked tirelessly to implement a fresh style of play and strategy into the squad.

Two victories over city rivals Liverpool to end 2018 demonstrated that the group are steadily getting to grips with Kirk's methods and Turner has backed her teammates to get better and better.

“When they came in there was a hectic schedule of four games in a very short space of time," she added. "But we managed to get two wins against Liverpool and now they want to really implement what they want to do.

“Collectively as a team, we want to get used to working with Willie and Chris and they want to help us move forward to hopefully get a good run of results for the remaining eight games we’ve got left.”
