'He’s a good player but' - Pundit doubts how far 22 y/o can take Everton

Former West Ham United striker Tony Cottee has shared doubt over how far Dominic Calvert-Lewin can take Everton, having been a key part of Marco Silva’s plans since February, as told to talkSPORT via HITC.

“He’s a good player, but I don’t know whether he’s going to get the goals to push the club into the top six,” Cottee told Alan Brazil on talkSPORT (11 September, 9.30am).

Former England Under 21 international Calvert-Lewin rarely displayed a prolific touch in front of goal, however, and his tendency to go missing from the scoresheet has continued into the new campaign – the 22-year-old has not scored a Premier League goal since March 9.

Calvert-Lewin eventually became the man Silva trusted the most to lead the Blues’ line in February when he started at home to Manchester City in a 2-0 defeat (TransferMarkt), with Richarlison soon moving out wide and Tosun dropped to the bench.

They’ve got to be more consistent then they’ve got a really good chance of kicking on.” Given that Calvert-Lewin has not scored a goal in eleven Premier League appearances now, it is hard to argue with Cottee’s suggestion that the striker’s days as first-choice under Silva are numbered.

Everton fans, what role can you see Calvert-Lewin occupying in the future?

Silva began to trust Calvert-Lewin more frequently following the turn of the year, having spent his opening months in charge of the Goodison Park natives rotating between the Sheffield United product, Richarlison and Cenk Tosun as his striking option (WhoScored).
