Hypocritical FA punish Mina for playing their game

The FA have fined Yerry Mina £10,000 and warned him over his future conduct after the Everton defender was caught dancing on an advert in his native Colombia, for a betting company.

The FA statement said that Mina had broken rule E8 (3) which is as follows: An individual Participant, when acting in a personal capacity, shall not be permitted to advertise or promote any betting activity that the Participant is prohibited from engaging in by Rule E8(1) or E8(2) Those rules, albeit in a very wordy way, describe betting and betting companies.

“A warning alone would be insufficient to reflect the seriousness of such a breach given that the integrity of the game is potentially threatened by breaches of the FA’s betting rules,” the FA Regulatory Commission said.

How very dare he upset the brittle emotions of The FA, who clearly can’t abide football betting adverts, except the dozens that surround every live match, that is.

The crime, it seems, was endorsing a product from which the FA and Premier League’s official partners made some money.

Mina will likely be back in the Everton line up for the fixture against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon, and will hopefully give us a version of his offending dancing if he manages to score.

Mina’s mitigating factors were as follows: The fine represents around a 10% cut from Mina’s weekly wage, which will hardly make a dent despite it not being representative of any profit he made from the advert (because there was none) but you do have to wonder if The FA will be putting the money to good use, perhaps helping those with addiction problems fuelled by the companies they cosy up with.
