Jurgen Klopp thought his side’s display at Everton was they best they have managed at Goodison under his tenure as Liverpool were held to a draw on Saturday afternoon.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header salvaged a 2-2 draw for Everton in a controversial 237th Merseyside derby at Goodison Park which saw Richarlison sent off late on.

Best away game we’ve played here since I started managing.

Everton had already escaped a red card and a penalty for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford early in the first half for a knee-high challenge on Virgil Van Dijk, which ended the Holland captain’s afternoon, but there was no VAR reprieve for the Brazilian’s lunge on Thiago Alcantara.

Jordan Henderson also saw a last-gasp goal ruled out for offside in a hugely entertaining draw.

Klopp speaking to Match of the Day, he said: “Performance wise I’m very, very happy.

I’ve seen the disallowed goal at the end and in the picture I saw it wasn’t offside.
