The Merseyside derby on Wednesday evening sees Europe’s best team this season host a side slumming it among the continent’s worst.
Everton haven’t won at Anfield in 20 years and Marco Silva, a dead man walking, somehow has to inspire the players who have lost five of their last six on the road to turn over Jurgen Klopp’s team, who are undefeated in their last 45 at home.
All the best, Marco.
It would be harsh to judge the Everton boss on the derby, however, since Liverpool are blazing a trail ahead of everyone else in Europe’s top five leagues at the moment – and they haven’t really got going yet.
Them and Juventus are the only undefeated sides, though Juve’s three draws leaves them chasing Inter Milan at the top of Serie A.
Silva, though, will be damned by what has gone before the short trip across Stanley Park.
Only 14 points from 14 matches puts them among the 20 teams in Europe to have shown the worst form this season.
