Marco Silva might have to rewrite history to save his Everton career

For Everton boss Marco Silva, there can be little doubt which category the current hiatus from domestic action falls under.

And for that to happen, Everton will have to rewrite recent history to gave this thus-far dispiriting campaign the shot in the arm it so badly needs.

International breaks can be a blessing but they can also be a curse.

And, worryingly if you're someone who believes in omens, Everton managed to lose all of the equivalent fixtures last season.

So, if that reverse pattern is repeated, things may be looking a fair bit rosier for the Blues and Silva in a few weeks time.

Watford, as mentioned the Blues' next Carabao Cup opponents, were beaten on the opening day of this season in August having drawn 2-2 at Goodison last December, while Wolves - beaten 3-2 in L4 last month - pulled off a 3-1 away win back in February.

The desperately disappointing start to the campaign has set alarm bells off amongst some the Everton support - not least because the final weeks of Ronald Koeman's reign began with a 1-0 defeat to the Clarets just before the October international break - and clearly an immediate upturn in fortunes when club football resumes next weekend is vital not just for the Blues' season but Silva's future in the Goodison hot-seat.
