Marco Silva has refused to rule out dropping Jordan Pickford after the Everton goalkeeper's erratic performance at Newcastle last weekend attracted intense media scrutiny and prompted England boss Gareth Southgate to jump to his defence.

Silva confirmed that he wanted to see Pickford "grow his emotional balance" during matches - but asked if he had considered taking Pickford out of the spotlight, the Blues boss declared: "We have 23 players and all of them are under consideration by the coach.

But he also wants to see improvement in some aspects of the keeper's performances, including "emotional balance."

"I said to you, of course Jordan was until now our no.1 choice because he deserves it and he has the quality to be there.

"It is not fair to single out one player," added Silva.

Pickford was fortunate to escape a red card for conceding a penalty, which he then saved, parried a long range shot which led to Newcastle's equaliser and appeared to be distracted by abuse from the home fans who took delight in baiting the former Sunderland keeper.

"What i want from Jordan is to keep working in the same way and keep the same desire, keep improving, with more emotional balance in some moments if he can.
