Everton Club captain Phil Jagielka will miss Sunday’s clash with Chelsea through injury.

Leighton Baines is in contention for the Blues, however, having recovered from a back problem.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri rested Eden Hazard, Gonzalo Higuain and David Luiz for their midweek Europa League victory against Dynamo Kiev, and all three could return.

Everton have only played Chelsea once before on 17 March - the Toffees securing a 4-0 home victory back in 1962. Alex Young hit a brace, while Derek Temple and Roy Vernon were also on the scoresheet.

Everton have won five and drawn two of their past 10 meetings with Chelsea at Goodison Park.

If Seamus Coleman starts the match against Chelsea it will be his 257th start for Everton in all competitions – taking him one above the total achieved by Tim Cahill.

There have been more penalties in Everton’s matches with Chelsea (49) than in any of the Toffees’ other fixtures.

If Jordan Pickford saves a penalty it will be the fourth time he’s done so during the 2018-19 campaign. No Everton goalkeeper has saved that many penalties in one season.

ONE TO WATCH: Gonzalo Higuain

Boasting a combination of power, clinical finishing ability and intelligent movement, Higuain has been one of Europe’s most prolific marksman over the past decade.

The Argentina international first linked up with Maurizio Sarri when the Italian was appointed Napoli manager four years ago. Higuain scored 36 goals in 35 league matches under Sarri as Napoli finished runners-up in Serie A in 2015-16.

He then signed for Juventus for a reported £75 million and helped the Old Lady secure consecutive titles before joining AC Milan on loan last summer.

This move was cut short in January when Higuain reunited with Sarri at Chelsea. The 31-year-old has hit three goals in six Premier League appearances for the west London side.
