Record Premier League goalscorer Alan Shearer was blown away on Sunday night to learn that his record for top flight hat-tricks, which he now shares with Sergio Aguero, is still put firmly in the shade by the greatest top-flight hat-trick hero of all-time.

And Sunday's Match of the Day 2, on which Shearer is a guest pundit,  referred to the Premier League record that their analyst now shares.

Dixie scored all five goals in a 5-2 defeat of Manchester United in the title-winning season of 1927/28, a feat he repated against Sheffield Wednesday and Chelsea in 1931 - and scored four goals in a game on EIGHT occasions.

Aguero's latest hat-trick for Manchester City against Chelsea, his fifth in his past 14 home league starts, took his overall tally of trebles to 11, the same as Shearer.

Of his 37 trebles one was in an FA Charity Shield, two in the FA Cup, four in the old Second Division and 30 in top flight football.

- who scored a staggering 37 career hat-tricks, 30 of them in the top flight.

Dean scored his first top flight hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Burnley on October 17, 1925 - then scored another the very next week in a 4-2 victory over Leeds United at Goodison Park.
