Everton were linked with a move for Danny Welbeck over the summer before he joined Watford, but the Toffees may now feel they’ve dodged a bullet two months into the season.

Marco Silva’s men have netted only two league goals since September 1.

Welbeck requested £100k-per-week from suitors over the summer and went on to agree a three-year deal at Vicarage Road in August.

The England international could set Watford back £5.2m-a-year and £15.6m by the time his contract is up in 2022, so Everton might be relieved they didn’t sign him.

The 28-year-old has made six appearances in all competitions, scoring just one goal.

Everton are having their own problems in attack, however, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Keane and Cenk Tosun scoring just two goals between them this season.

Watford are faring worse, however.
