Opinion: Everton have a big problem with Theo Walcott this summer, here’s why

Theo Walcott recently joked about leaving Everton, dismissing speculation as “just rumours” and revealing he’s only going on holiday this summer not joining a new club.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Merseysiders due to his inconsistent form and advancing age, but Everton may have a big problem if they want to offload him.

Everton paid a lot of money for the winger and had big expectations upon his arrival in 2018, but now they could be stuck with one of the highest-earners who doesn’t command a starting place.

Finding a suitor for Walcott could prove difficult this summer.

Walcott has started only two league games in the last three months.

It’s hard to see another club shelling out more than £25m to lure him away from Everton as a result, so the Blues may be stuck with him.

The England international cost Everton £20m last year and agreed a £5.2m-a-year/£100k-per-week, but his valuation is likely to drop after a disappointing 18 months at Goodison Park.
