A man was reportedly punched and kicked in the head during a gang attack outside a pub just hours after an Everton match.

“The incident happened several hours after Everton’s 0-2 home defeat to Sheffield United."

A number of men are believed to have been involved in the assault which took place at around 8.15pm, just over three hours after Everton’s 0-2 home defeat to Sheffield United at nearby Goodison Park.

The victim has undergone facial surgery, after being beaten up by the group outside popular matchday pub the Winslow, at the junction of Eton Street and Goodison Road, on Saturday, September 21.

CCTV images have now been released by Merseyside Police of a group of men who they believe could hold vital information on the incident.

Detective Constable Mandy Seddon said: “This was a particularly vicious assault, and we believe the victim was punched and then kicked to the head as he fell to the floor.
