Andre Gomes’ ankle injury against Crystal Palace on Saturday meant Jean-Philippe Gbamin was thrust on for his debut.

Everton fans, were you impressed with Gbamin’s debut?

Gbamin’s main defensive contributions were that he attempted and completed one tackle, while he also made one interception.

With Gomes’ injury status currently uncertain, it seems as though Gbamin could be given another chance to show what he’s got when Everton face Watford on Saturday.

What is perhaps the biggest indicator that the 23-year-old was struggling with the pace of the game is that he was dispossessed twice – for context, Richarlison and Bernard were the only players on the pitch who were dispossessed more and they were much more progressive, being wingers, while also being on the pitch longer.

Gbamin did struggle against Palace, but this shouldn’t be taken out of context and become a big cause for concern.

The numbers he recorded for tackles, passing accuracy and being dispossessed were all adverse to his averages from the 2018/19 Bundesliga season – though it is understandable that this is the case, as he is still adapting to Everton and the Premier League.
