Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has spoken out about the club's position over allowing Wilfried Zaha to leave Selhurst Park.

The 72-year-old manager insists Zaha has acted "Maturely" after the winger saw attempts from Arsenal and Everton fail to reach an agreement with the Eagles.

Arsenal appeared to be the first team to try and tempt the Ivory Coast international away from the south London club their opening bid of £40million was rejected by Palace as they were reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £80m. The Gunners then turned their attention elsewhere and eventually signed winger Nicolas Pepe for £72m from Lille with Arsenal out of the picture Everton then stepped up their interest in the 26-year-old.

Zaha had even handed in a transfer request to try and force a move away from Palace to Goodison Park but according to Hodgson the club didn't have their valuation met.

The former England and Liverpool boss also took the opportunity to appear to have a dig at Everton as he suggested they were not a "Much bigger club" than the Eagles.

Palace were under no financial pressure to sell Zaha in the summer as the winger had recently signed a new contract last year.

While not wanting to lose the key role Zaha plays in Palace's Premier League campaign the club had also received £50m from the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window.
