The Premier League have issued a joint-statement with a host of sports governing bodies following a meeting with the culture secretary, Oliver Dowden.

The Premier League issued a joint statement with the FA, EFL, British Horseracing, English Cricket Board, Lawn Tennis Association, Rugby Football League and Rugby Football Union reiterating the desire to see fans return in order to ease financial concerns in sport.

“It is clear that if fans cannot return soon that there will be very serious economic implications across our sporting sector.

The statement said that, should fans not return soon, there will be serious financial consequences facing different clubs.

“Today we were able to explain our extensive arrangements for how we can manage a controlled return of fans following all relevant public health guidelines.

Doubts have been raised over whether fans can return to sport as planned in October following the government’s decision to ban gatherings of more than six people.

Dowden met with a number of sports bodies on Wednesday to discuss the potential return of fans to sport in October.
