Besiktas are reportedly interested in bringing Ademola Lookman to Turkey on a loan deal, but should Everton let him go?

The 21-year old winger made just three Premier League starts last season in a campaign where many expected him to kick on and become a regular starter for the club.

Reports earlier this summer had suggested that Everton would have been happy to let the former Charlton Athletic man leave the club in their summer shake-up.

Now, Turkish outlet Fanatik claim that Besiktas have ‘started attempts’ to sign the England youth international, having already opened talks with Lookman’s agent over a prospective loan deal which will seem him link up with the squad in time for pre-season training.

However, this move appears to be counter-productive for Everton, and wouldn’t serve any real purpose.

In the small fragments we’ve seen of Lookman, it is clear that the forward has potential to influence games and make things happen. With Henry Onyekuru’s future uncertain with a further loan looming, and with Theo Walcott having misfired last season, it doesn’t make logical sense to let a winger depart.

That being said, that comes from my personal viewpoint as someone who would have liked to have seen Lookman start more frequently last season. For whatever reason, Marco Silva doesn’t agree with me, and so the Portuguese coach could see fit to loan the starlet out.

In general I would prefer to loan Lookman than sell him, because I still see the star potential within him, but I would personally prefer to see him remain on Merseyside for the upcoming campaign to fight for his place in Silva’s side.
