Dominic Calvert-Lewin reckons that young English players can't be criticised for trying their luck in Germany but Everton's ambitious plans for the future make him keen to continue his progress with the Blues.

“The Premier League is a competitive league where strikers can be brought in for x amount of pounds and it might block your pathway as a young player.

Calvert-Lewin's Goodison Park team-mate Ademola Lookman was one of seven young Englishmen turning out in the Bundesliga last season through his loan spell at RB Leipzig – along with Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho; Wolfsburg's Kaylen Hinds; Augsburg's Kevin Danso; Liverpool's Ryan Kent who was on loan at Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach loan pair Reece Oxford of West Ham United and Crystal Palace's Mandela Egbo.

“You look at Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson now in the Bundesliga, it's paying off for them because they're getting exposed to first team football.

Calvert-Lewin said: “It's exciting moving forward and the club wants to go on to bigger and better things.

“If you still believe you're a young kid, it's hindering me so if I'm big enough to be exposed in that situation then I'm old enough to take whatever comes with it – that's the way I kind of see it.”

He said: “I have to think of myself as a senior player now.
